He has also secured significant competitive research funding and received multiple research awards.

He is the Founding Research Director of the Next Generation Artificial Intelligent Research Centre (NGAIRC), where he leads international, interdisciplinary research collaborations. Dr. Islam holds a PhD from Federation University Australia and currently serves as an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at East West University, Bangladesh. His work focuses on impactful, ethical, and data-driven AI solutions addressing real-world societal challenges.

Formerly a Post-Doctoral Fellow at CQU and Deakin University, his research includes IoT, machine learning, power electronics, and renewable energy.
